Hi everyoneI just wanted to say hi to everyone in the club, and maybe give a few tips on how the site works. As registered users you will each have your own blog. Your blog is like your journal on the site, and is located at idahobritishcars.com/blog/yourusername. It lists in chronological order (with most recent first) all posts you've made to the site. Your blog is created automatically with your registration. To post to your blog, click "create content" at the top of the left sidebar just below the union jack. Click "blog entry" on the screen that follows. Every blog entry has to have a title, a body, and at least one tag. Tags are keywords that determine where else your blog entry gets displayed on the site. They're what visitors to the site will use to browse through your blog entries and those of the other members. Once submitted, your blog entry will always automatically show up at idahobritishcars.com/blog/yourusername. But if you also want it to appear in the sidebar under "Buying and Selling", for instance, then you'll want to enter "buying and selling" in the tags field (without the quotes). As you can see there are three main category blocks in the left sidebar: General, Buying and Selling, and Technical. These blocks are set up to show the most recent blog entries tagged with those words. Beneath those three is a tag cloud. The tag cloud is sort of for everything else. Say you want to post a blog entry about the most recent Wednesday Night Drive. You can type wednesday night drive into the tags field for your blog entry, and after submitting the entry, "wednesday night drive" will appear in the tag cloud. Each time someone posts a blog entry tagged with "wednesday night drive" the font size for that tag in the cloud willl automatically increase a little to reflect how many posts are in that category. When including multiple tags in a blog entry, it is important to separate them with commas.
Also, when adding an existing tag to a blog entry it's important to type and spell it exactly the same. If you type "buying & selling", for instance, you'll add a new tag rather than using the one above. The exception is letter case. Tags are not case-sensitive. The userlinks use tags in a similar way. To add a link to the "Links" directory in the top menu, go into "create content" and add userlink. I hope this helps. If you have any questions about the way something works feel free to email me at larryenichols@gmail.com. It's been fun having the opportunity to work on this, and I hope it can be of some use to the club. Let my dad or me know if something is acting weird. I'll try to drop the occasional post here letting you all know when I've made little tweaks and adjustments. Good luck, and happy
