Last week (July 30th) we returned from a really nice vacation that we spent on the coast of Washington with Ed and Michele Hubbard and Rod and Becky Nichols. It was a great trip-- no tickets, no break downs and very nice weather. Had the hood down for all but 30 miles after we crossed the Cascades when it “misted.” The cooler temps were a RELIEF, we had 100 F here in Idaho and the 65-75 F on the coast was wonderful!  We left Boise on Sunday morning the 22nd and drove to John Day. As we were stopping for lunch in John Day who did we run into but a couple of wayward travelers returning from an MG gathering in California, Bob and Kim Doc! What a surprise that was! After we said goodbye and ate our lunch, we headed on up to Pendleton on some very nice back-country roads, staying in the mountains until we got close to Pendleton.

Making a pressure brake bleeder

I just finished bleeding the brakes on my '68 and it was made simple by the use of a home made pressure bleeder that I made from a 1 gallon sprayer.

I have found that bleeding the rear brakes on my cars in the past was very difficult even with my wife pumping the brake pedal while I was using the Mityvac.
Well today I decided to build a cheap/simple brake bleeding machine. I took a new 1 gallon sprayer, a half gallon sprayer would work a bit better and be easier to store but I couldn't find one, fitted a cheap pressure gauge to the upper side of it, and then used a couple of brass fittings and a piece of tin from a can to fit inside an old brake bottle cap. After attaching this to the line from the sprayer gave me a way to pressurize the system.

Spring Drive?

Hi Folks,

Sunday the 11th of March is suposed to be a beautiful day.  If you are interested in bringing out your LBC for a drive consider joining me for a 'tour' of some of the country south of here.  I have proposed that we leave the Moxie Java where we usually meet on the 3rd Saturday of the Mo. off of 5 mile and head south.
Proposed Itenerary:
Leave Boise from Moxie Java on 5 mile at 10:30 (remember DST), head to Kuna and cut across to Murphy (check out little Museum there?).  Then down to Grandview by way of the Emu-Z-Um if it's open.  From here we can make several different choices: if it is windy head to either Mtn. Home or Glenns Ferry for lunch then back to Mtn. Home/Boise via the back roads; or if it is nice go to Bruneau Sand Dunes and pack a picnic lunch and have a photo shoot.  I prefer the Bruneau SD's but if it's windy it won't be much fun in the park. If we really want to keep it cheap we can stop for lunch at Strike reservor, also an OK area for a picnic/photo shoot.
After lunch back to Boise via the back roads (still have about 10-20 miles of freeway I can't figure out how to get out of).
What do you think?

Point-Saver Electronic Ignition/6 mo later

June 7th, 2007

Sending the unit back, the manufacture of the unit indicated that some of the "Deluxe" units with the rev limiter have developed a glitch  and start cutting out at 3K rpm.  He offered a full refund or exchange for the reg unit.  I will probably change to different type unless he is able to resolve the issue fairly quickly.

OK, I did it, talked it up and now it's dead! Last week the car started missing at about 4K rpm, then at about 3.5 K . Turned it off and the car runs fine on the points/condenser. As I mentioned in an earlier post the unit has an on and off switch that allows the user to switch from the PSD to points/condenser. Guess that switch is there for a reason. I'll keep you posted.

End of the driving season 2

Hi All,

Had a great day for November here in Id. There was a glimpse of clear sky off to the west so Jan, Myself and Emmy Lou took of in search of the sun. We took a route that had some nice 4 lane sweeping hills/curves the first half and twisty 2 lane coming back. The weather was very accommodating and while it looked like it rained in Horseshoe Bend just before we got there it stayed dry the whole time and the hood was down for the drive.

Going up to Horseshoe Bent there was some dude playing cat an mouse with me and coming down the hill into the town, guess who we should meet coming around a corner. You bet, Smokey, the SUV was passing me and I didn't get pulled over but he did. (whew, that was close!).
